Pearls of Wisdom

“Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket!” My mother said to me.
“Good things come, to those who wait, as you will surely see.
You can’t judge a book by its cover, and two heads are better than one
And if nothing never gets ventured, then nothing can never be won!”

She said, “When in Rome do as the Romans, and if it gets tough, then get going,
Cos your future is what you make of it and with fate there is no way of knowing.
If you don’t ask then you do not get, but don’t ask and you cannot expect
Beauty is only skin deep and make-up’s; – a made-up affect

She told me ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right’, and ‘A penny saved’s one less to earn.’
‘It’s better be late than be never,’ and ‘The early bird catches the worm’.
Don’t cry over spilt milk’ and ‘Always let sleeping dogs lie.’
A watched pot will never boil, but don’t watch it – and it boils dry!’

She told me, ‘Honesty’s always the policy’ and ‘Speak as you shall find’.
‘Don’t upset the apple cart’. ‘Out of sight is out of mind’
A leopard cannot change his spots. A change is as good as a rest
Truth is stranger than fiction and true words are spoken in jest

She told me: ‘A snake will always be snake-ish’ and ‘A skunk it will always stink’.
‘You may lead a horse to water, but you cannot and won’t make it drink.’
Blood it is thicker than water, but you can’t choose your sisters or brothers.
No man is ever an island, but do not rely upon others.

She said, “You’ll understand, my love for you, when you have kids yourself
For there can be no greater gift, than to be a mum itself
Love, and laugh and live your life; be all you can become
She gave me pearls of wisdom. Didn’t she? – My mum.
